So last week or so I went over to visit my parents who live about a mile away.  They have 3 small drainage ponds in their neighborhood and for some reason I never thought to fish them until I saw 2 little boys fishing there and they caught a dink. So tonight when we went over there I tried one of the ponds that was probably 35yds by 20yds with a fountain in the middle. Caught 3 small bass on my first 3 casts. Cast #4 I caught a 1.5lb bass, and a few cast later I thought I got snagged up. It was too dark to really see my line, and it didnt feel like a fish.  It felt like dead weight so I told my wife I think I'm snagged on something. As I pulled again the fish took off and gave a pretty decent fight. When the fish reached the shore I was suprised to find a 4lb'er.  Tackle used was a 6'10 Powell Max Wacky Rig rod, weedless finesse ewg hook, Strike King Zero in watermelon. Moral of the long story is don't neglect those small waters, many are unfished but hold fish in them.

Exactly. This was highlighted a few months back when Kurt, BassmanKVB, wrote the short topic called "You Caught That Where?", and this is something everybody has access to and is really overlooked.

big bass in little places....

you mean like this ~ 9 - 10lber I caught earlier today in a tiny pond in northern new castle county? :P

those little pictures do the fish no justice.

I've caught more fish over 5lbs in small ponds lately then I can remember.

Wish I could say that when I'm out on the rivers...

Don't get me wrong - I've gotten into a bunch of good fish on the rivers as well.. back in May I had 24lbs for 5 fish... best day out there in a long time. I'm on the North East/Flats pretty much every weekend.

Thanks for the welcome, it's nice to be here... been lurking for a while now.

Cool We have a couple members who will be there on the Sassafras and Susquehanna in a tournament next week and my brother will be there on the Sassafras on the 18th, with a couple guys from the site here from New york who are coming down on vacation. I'll be back up there soon as well. I love the rivers more than anything else. Take plenty of pictures and if you have video just let me know and we'll put it up. Tight lines, Steve

Mike I think we should go to Red Mill anytime after the 20th this month. Saturday or Sunday will be fine at that time of year.

I caught em on a 1/4 oz white/chart booyah spinnerbait.

I can't really say exactly where I caught her as the pond is technically private. It's in a neighborhood and is only supposed to be used by the home owners. I only fish it with a buddy who lives in the neighborhood and has swore me to secrecy.

I will say though that I could have just been being misleading by saying it was caught in northern new castle county, though it was definitely caught in NCC somewhere.. and it's real close to an old mill pond. it was actually created by damming up the creek that ran from the millpond. It's also really close to a state line.... If you use aerial maps to find ponds, that should be pretty useful to you in finding this one.

Fished a little bit tonight with the wife while visiting my parents again. We caught six total in an hour. 2 biggest came on a Rage Toad and Yum Dinger fished weightless.  It just amazes the size of fish I am catching in these tiny little ponds.  Anyway don't ignore small waters, they can be super fun, easy to fish, and can produce some nice fish.
