Barren Lake fishing Report Updated May 19, 2010 May 19
Jesse Duncan reports that fishing is excellent on Barren River. Water temps are in the high 60's to low 70's depending on where you are on the lake. The best fishing seems to be in the Parking lots at some of the ramps. Fish are honing in on the warmer water created by the blacktop, as are the baitfish. Largemouth bass are holding in cover along the edges of the lots, and the hybrids are cruising the more open areas. Occasionally schooling up fish. The lake is 23 feet over summer pool right now. Crappie and and bluegill are cruising the shallow water edges looking for bugs and other forage. The COE is trying to drop the lake 6 inches a day, but rains are slowing the drop. Not sure how long this could take to get the lake back down, and if the fish begin to spawn it could be a bit of an issue down the road with this years spawn.
