Over the last few years the introduction of swimbaits to "us easterners" has put tons of monster bass in our livewells.  Then a few years back at the classic at Toho we all were let in on a secret  bait known as the chatterbait that hammered prespawn bass and we later found out it worked all year on practically any fishery. These two baits have been the secret key to our success for the last couple years. Well guess what, the secrets out .So the obvious question to the internet and tech savy basser is WHATS NEXT to take the fishermans and more importantly the bass world buy storm? I have the answer for you.Its a bait I began playing around with late last summer after noticing its name turn up in some of the tournaments I'd been following in print and on the web. The baits been around for a while but  is used buy only some tournament anglers and in my opinion its potential has been nowhere near explored to its maximum conclusion. This bait is called a SCROUNGER HEAD. Basically its a lead jig head(soon to come in tungsten I'm sure) with a plastic lip attached. The lip comes in different sizes the larger the lip the wider the wobble or more erratic the bait is. You  just thread your favorite plastic bait onto the head and it gives it the most amazing action you've ever seen. Flukes work best for me but the combos are limitless. Most of the reports I had come across were about how great it worked in deep water. Last summer I experimented with it  in shallow water and the results were phenomanal!!!   It was every bit as effective at fooling bass as the chatterbait was when I first introduced it to my local bass a few years back. You throw it out and just give it a nice steady retrieve. Its that simple. I ordered it last year online but was excited to see it in the BPS master catalog this year. Hopefully steve can get us some pics and video posted so everyone can get a look at it. I assure you if you get a chance to buy one and do you'll be more than satisfied with the results. Tight Lines

All good baits come back around eventually. These baits were a closely guarded secret back when I was a kid in Az and accounted for a lot of local touraments out west. Then they just dissapeared until Martens started his company and bought the rights. Now I think lucky strike bought them from Martens. Good baits with tons of possibilitys. Yamamoto shad shaped worms are probably my favorite trailer.

This baits been around for years but not alot of guys are throwin it. One of my favorite features with the scrounger is that it turns clear water finesse baits into murky water power baits because of the water displaced by the bill and action of the plastic bait. This bait rocks and I never go out on the water without one rigged and on the deck of my boat. I catch bass on the scrounger from the potomac to New York lakes from small mill ponds in Delaware to Stick Marsh in Florida this bait is hot

Yes different bill sizes and head weights. The shallower the water the lighter you want to gobut I prefer to have some 1/8, 1/4/, 1/2 and even a 3/4 for super deep water in my box. Remember for bill size the longer the bill the more dramatic the side to side wobble. So clear water with a small bait you may prefer the smaller bill but dingy water the longer bill makes the bait displace more water. I find that with the medium size you can't go wrong you get the best of both but its worth havin all sizes in your box. As far as trailers go this is what I like so much about this bait is the room to experiment. Try everything! I like fluke or slugo type baits & small swimbaits the best but speedworms, eel worms, trickworms, paca and chigger crawsall will work but the minnow baits are my favorite.
