Since the state is rebuilding the dam and going to build a fish ladder for the alewife run, the ramp is closed right now. Hopefully this will eventually improve the access, since the ramp is in poor condition and larger bass boats cannot easily get onto the lake. We used a small plastic boat to fish here today(11/3/09), the water temperature was between 51 and 53 degrees under partly sunny skies with moderate winds. Although there are some nice bass here thanks to low fishing pressure and the alewives, we could only get dinks today. We caught a couple of 1 pound bass with jerkbaits off the main points, then went into the shallow upper basin where the Aberjona river empties into the lake. Most of the lilly pads have died off here, this area was choked with vegetation all summer, but no longer. I threw a Megabass Dog-X around where the bluegill were popping on the surface, and caught several small bass. It was kind of a surprise to have an active topwater bite with the water as cool as this, but since they were ignoring Senkos and Texas-rigged worms, that's what we went with. I wish I hadn't put my frog rod away for the season, I bet it would have worked today too. | |
