Dillow wins BFL tourney on Lake Gaston Baynard bests co-anglers

BRACY,Va. — Chris Dillow of Waynesboro, Va., won the Walmart Bass FishingLeague final Piedmont Division tournament of the season on Gaston LakeSunday with a nine-bass catch weighing 26 pounds, 2 ounces. The victoryearned Dillow $5,704. Anglers were competing to qualify for the PotomacRiver Regional Championship in Marbury, Md., Oct. 8-10, where theycould ultimately win a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truck.
Rounding out the top five boaters are Christopher Cox of Greenville,N.C. (10 bass, 23-4, $2,852); Chris Baldwin of Lexington, N.C. (10bass, 20-12, $1,904); Bowman Gray of Winterville, N.C. (eight bass,20-6, $1,331) and Jamey Caldwell of Carthage, N.C. (nine bass, 19-7,$1,141).
Dillow took home the Boater Division Folgers Big Bass award, earning $757 for a 5-pound, 1-ounce bass he caught.
Jamie Baynard of Clayton, N.C., earned $2,852 as the co-angler winner Sunday thanks to six bass weighing 14 pounds, 2 ounces.
Rounding out the top five co-anglers are Sammy Creech of Kenly, N.C.(five bass, 13-6, $1,426); Jerry Cross of Southern Pines, N.C. (fivebass, 12-6, $950); Tony McVey of Chilhowie, Va. (four bass, 11-14,$666); and James Spivey of Whiteville, N.C. (five bass, 11-4, $570).
McVey earned $379 as the co-angler Folgers Big Bass winner after catching a 5-pound, 2-ounce bass.
The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers in each of the BFL’s 28 divisionsat the end of the season advance to a no-entry-fee RegionalChampionship where boaters fish for a new Ranger boat and a Chevy truckand co-anglers fish for a new Ranger boat. Seven regional championshipswill each send six boaters and six co-anglers to the no-entry-feeWalmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy, which features a $1million purse and a top award of $140,000 in the Boater Division and$70,000 in the Co-angler Division. Anglers who compete in all fiveregular-season events within a division but do not advance to aRegional Championship are eligible to compete in the Chevy Wild Card,which will also send six boaters and six co-anglers to the All-Americanfor a total of 48 boaters and 48 co-anglers advancing through BFLcompetition.
The winning boater and winning co-angler at the All-American willadvance to the no-entry-fee Forrest Wood Cup in Atlanta in 2010. Thisevent, featuring a top award of $1 million, is the most lucrativetournament in all of competitive bass fishing. In all, the BFL offersweekend anglers the opportunity to qualify for three no-entry-feechampionships with total cash awards exceeding $3.5 million. Plus, thetop 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers from each BFL division may move up tothe Stren Series for 2010 while All-American champions have the optionto advance directly to the Walmart FLW Tour.
In BFL competition, boaters supply the boat and compete from the frontdeck against other boaters. Co-anglers compete from the back deckagainst other co-anglers.
